Outward journey – The choice was to make the entire trip by motorbike, discarding solutions such as the train transfer from Verona to the north of Germany. Then the first two days of fast transfer via Austria and Germany, until you get to spend the night in Haribo, Denmark. From there he visits Copenhagen, then Malmo and Gothenburg in Sweden, to arrive in Oslo in Norway. From Oslo we headed towards Bergen, crossing some of the most beautiful and evocative plateaus in all of Norway. Finally, the entire Norwegian coast, including the Lofoten Islands which are absolutely worth a visit.

Why North Cape on a motorcycle with a K1600GT among the destinations of my Vespa World Tour? The answer is simple: because it was during this trip, in the summer of 2021, that I decided it was time to do something big, special, something I've dreamed of since I was a boy. The trip to the North Cape was a discovery, or rather, the confirmation that traveling by motorbike gives you a sense of freedom that you can hardly describe. The fatigue, the many kilometers of driving, the bad weather, rain and cold, do not in the least affect how great a trip like this can give you.

Stop at the North Cape – The decision was to stay overnight in a small campsite (wooden house), in the village closest to the North Cape called Skarsvag, about 15 km away, perhaps less. Luckily we booked in advance, otherwise we would not have found a place and we would have had to go a long way away. In the whole trip it was the only place we slept for two nights, but it was worth it. We went back for both nights to the North Cape and, the second we ate at a great little fish restaurant in Skarsvag.
Return – To return we opted for the crossing of all Finland, with a quick visit to the country of Santa Claus, where we pass the Arctic Circle on the way back and arrive in Helsinki. In the following days we practically crossed and visited a city in every state, every day: Tallin in Estonia, Riga in Latvia and Villnius in Lithuania, then Prague in the Czech Republic, Warsaw and Krakow in Poland, Auschwitz, Salzburg in Austria. Finally it ends with the ascent to the Glossglockner Pass, also in Austria, an unmissable destination for all motorcyclists.
The numbers of the trip – 24 days, with overnight stays in 23 different locations. 12 days of almost uninterrupted rain. 10,050 km traveled, crossing 12 countries. Average consumption of the BMW K1600GT of 19.50 km / l. Total cost of the trip about € 2,500, excluding materials purchased in Italy and pre and post travel coupons (1 kit of worn tires). No technical problems with the bikes or say hello to us.

1. North Cape – Of course, it couldn’t have been otherwise. In reality it is just like that, North Cape is a magical place, where you arrive after a long and tiring journey and find yourself in nothingness. Where it seems that the world to the north does not have a following but where everyone is there, united by the same emotions and feelings. At the North Cape you spend the night there, not realizing that time is passing and without feeling tired. There waiting to be able to approach the globe with your motorcycle to immortalize what will become an unforgettable moment for every motorcyclist.
2. Road from Oslo to Bergen – I do not think it was the main road, in fact it was not at all, we found ourselves there almost by mistake, on the restart from the visit to the oldest wooden church in Norway. The road went up, not much, but it went up, until you reach a plateau first and then a second that left you breathless. Dozens and dozens of kilometers with natural landscapes and a continuous show left and right …, the desire to always stop and take pictures, regardless of the bad weather first and then the rain. A mix of sustainable construction (houses with grass roofs), lakes, vegetation and nature, lots of nature.
3. Lofoten Islands – They are famous and you always hear about them, but only when you see them and walk through them do you realize their beauty. Villages of fishermen that seem painted, there motionless that you would not even want to enter, for fear of ruining them. And then the great beaches, yes yes, their own, where Norwegians, regardless of the harsh climate, surf.
Perchè andarci
Perchè non è il ``solito viaggio`` che molti sognano e che poi un pò delude.... no no, quì è tutt'altra storia. Andare a Capo Nord in moto per me ha significato tanto, nonostante il tempo bruttisimo che ci ha accompagnato per 10 giorni consecutivi di pioggia e vento. E' il primo viaggio nel quale,, dopo 10.000 km quando sei vicino a casa, saresti disposto a rifare tutto il giro in senso inverso, senza pensarci due volte.
Many are fearful and don’t do it, perhaps because they don’t have time, or it costs too much, or they simply don’t feel ready. Others do it with groups, more or less organized, more or less professional, there is a bit of everything.
Everyone does it as they see fit, but I advise you to jump in, to try and above all not to postpone, because the “sorry”, or the attitude of finding excuses and 1000 reasons why we can’t, we can’t, is inherent and pervasive in all of us .
If you go there in a small group, like we did with three of us, that’s fine. Just find the right companions (which is very important) and divide the tasks a little: a technical expert, an overnight attendant and a map and navigator … obviously, at least one of the three who knows English well enough.
